Our History
The Legacy Group of Alabama (The Legacy Group), formally known as, "The LHS Legacy Alumni Group (LLAG)"of Sumter County began its journey as an association of former graduates, faculty and administrative leaders affiliated with Livingston High School during the years of 1970-2011. The organization was founded by Anitra J. Hall, a native of Livingston, Alabama as a response to a school board's decision in 2011 to consolidate Livingston High School and Sumter County High School because of its decline in student enrollment. Consequently, the schools officially merged in 2012, and the LHS Legacy Alumni Group emerged in 2013 serving as a platform to connect former graduates under the former "Livingston High School Name" and to foster community outreach programs in honor of its legacy.
Henceforth, with the various changes and economic challenges facing Sumter County and the broader communities, the LLAG grew significantly in scope and in breadth, and rebranded its name to, "The Legacy Group of Alabama", in establishing the community development arm of the organization for the purpose of creating a better way to engage with community members who share the same goal of helping those in need.
In 2016, The Legacy Group became officially recognized as a 501c3 community based organization dedicated to the belief of giving time and energy for making positive change in the community. We base our activities in the philosophy of sharing and community building. Our office is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and we have a support team of volunteers who have years of expertise in areas such as, project management, marketing, finance, community development, legalities, and business administration, that contribute to all aspects of the organization. We are dedicated to highlighting the importance of bringing education awareness to the community.
Today, The Legacy Group continues to provide services that promote and support the educational and continued professional development of the low-moderate income families in the local communities that originally motivated its establishment, along with programs focusing on holistic community growth and economic development.
